AI-centric startups raised a total of $32.2 billion in Q4 2024, rising to $73.1 billion in Q1 2025, a massive 127% increase.
Overall, venture capital funding increased from $108.6 billion to $126.3 billion, with AI accounting for 53% of the total.
Q2 2025 Setback or Healthy Breathing?
In the second quarter of this year, VC funding dropped to $101 billion, with AI investments cooling off to $47.3 billion over 1,403 deals.
There are indications that investors are taking a step back after the initial frenzy of the year to consider high valuations and wait for more explicit rules from the EU and U.S. government.
In Q3, venture capital funding rebounded, reaching $61 billion across 1,743 deals, accounting for over half of the global market.
Deal volume jumped by 24%, the most significant increase PitchBook has ever recorded. Hence, the slowdown is seen in the size of mega-rounds, not in interest.
Americas Dominate AI Startups Funding
In Q3, venture capital in the Americas reached $85.1 billion across 3,474 deals, accounting for over 70% of the global total, up from $80.4 billion in Q2.
The U.S. led the way with $80.9 billion from 3,175 deals, partly due to significant investments in AI, such as those from Anthropic ($13 billion) and xAI ($10 billion).
Europe followed with $17.4 billion across 1,625 deals, including Mistral and Nscale, each at $1.5 billion.
Asia-Pacific came in next with $16.8 billion from 2,310 deals, led by China ($8.4 billion) and India ($3.2 billion).
AI is dominating in the Americas and Europe, but the U.S. stands out for its big deals and successful startups.
The Bigger Picture: More Investors are Thinking “AI”
In just nine months (Q4 2024 to Q3 2025), AI startups raised $213.6 billion, making up over 45% of the total $456.6 billion in venture capital.
We’re in a time where AI is dominating investments, and non-AI deals are considered alternatives. Projects that avoid AI are losing investors, while AI-focused projects are five times oversubscribed.
