California Claims the Crown
California maintains its grip on the top spot, housing 57 companies from the prestigious roster.
Known for its massive technology, entertainment, and agricultural sectors, the Golden State continues to serve as the primary magnet for the nation’s highest-grossing enterprises.
However, the real story at the top of the 2024 rankings is the high-stakes silver-medal tie.
New York and Texas share the second position identically, each boasting 52 corporate headquarters.
While New York’s numbers are heavily bolstered by Wall Street finance, banking, and media institutions, Texas continues its rapid corporate influx, driven by energy giants, tech migrations, and industrial conglomerates that find the state’s business climate attractive.
Combined, these top three states account for over 30% of the entire 500-company roster.

Mid-Tier Powerhouses
Illinois claims fourth place with 32 companies, followed closely by Ohio in fifth with 27.
These mid-tier powerhouses rely on deep-rooted legacy corporate campuses and robust transport logistics rather than pure tech migration.

Virginia takes sixth place with 24 companies, trailed by Florida with 22 and Pennsylvania with 20. Georgia breaks into the top ten with 18 headquarters, while Minnesota follows closely with 17.
