Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s lavish 2025 wedding in Venice reportedly cost around $50 million, hinting at a large take-home for the photography service.

But while such extravagant spending grabs headlines, industry data from 2024 show that the typical wedding photographer earns far less, with average package prices well below those of celebrity celebrations.

TL;DR

  • Wedding photography is most expensive in the United States, with an average price of $5,445.
  • Couples pay less for the service in Eastern European countries, where the average cost is $1,731 (€1472)

Data for this insight is gathered from Fearless Photographers, a global community and award-winning directory for wedding photographers.

The 2024 report surveyed 656 professionals across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and 28 European countries.

What’s Behind U.S Photographers’ High Average Charge?

The United States sits at the top of the scale. Among 198 professional photographers surveyed, the most popular package cost an average of $5,445.

That figure alone tells us how central photography is to American weddings. In the U.S., weddings are often staged like productions, with photos almost as important as the ceremony itself.

It’s an investment, and one that reflects higher disposable incomes. American workers earn a median weekly wage of $1,194, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Cross over to the United Kingdom, and the picture looks different. The average from 82 surveyed photographers was $2,875, less than half of the American average when converted.

This points to a market where couples still value professional photography but are more restrained in what they’re willing to pay.

It doesn’t necessarily mean the quality is lower.

Rather, it suggests that UK couples prioritize value and are perhaps less inclined to pile on expensive extras.

Economic factors also play a role, but the cultural approach to weddings is another factor. British weddings are often grand, but the spending balance tilts differently compared to the U.S.

It’s Likely You Get Similar Quotation from Photographers in Western Europe

Among 250 photographers in Western European countries, the average price was $2,887 (€2,455). The selected countries were:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

What’s striking here is how consistent the number is across multiple nations within the bracket of $1,764 (€1,500) to $4,705 (€4,000) in the chart above.

This implies that the average couple would get similar quotations. Only a few professionals in this category charge more than $5,881 (€5,000).

Despite the cultural differences between, say, a German wedding and an Italian one, there seems to be a broadly shared idea of what wedding photography should cost.

Couples are willing to spend enough for a solid, professional package (usually with full-day coverage and at least one or two premium extras), but, of course, not at the same levels as Americans.

Photographers in Eastern Europe Charge Less

The lowest numbers in the survey come from Eastern Europe.

Across 86 photographers in selected countries, the average was $1,731 (€1,472). These countries were:

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Lithuania
  • Malta
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • Slovenia
  • Turkey

The gap relative to Western Europe is significant and reflects economic realities. Average incomes are lower, which naturally affects what couples can afford.

But it’s not just about money.

In many of these countries, weddings are community-centered occasions. According to where the focus is on the gathering itself (food, music, family, and traditions.

What are Couples Really Paying For?

The survey noted that photographers said their packages include “full-day coverage, a second photographer, high- and low-resolution files, albums, wall prints, engagement shoots, and even credits for extra products”.

The real difference between regions isn’t what’s offered, but how much couples are willing or able to pay for that bundle.

From this data, it becomes apparent that couples prioritize photography and are willing to invest heavily in it.

In the Zola Wedding Trends Report, which surveyed about 7,000 couples getting married in 2024, over half said they would splurge the most on photography services.

Zola is a popular online wedding registry, wedding planner, and retailer in the U.S.

ELI5: How Much Wedding Photographers Cost on Average

  • In the U.S., couples pay an average of $5,445, about the price of a decent used car (depending on make and model).
  • In the UK, it’s $2,875 (£2,130, which could cover a family holiday.
  • In Western Europe, $2,887 (€2,455) is the average, about the cost of a high-end laptop or two months’ rent in some cities.
  • Eastern Europe spends less, about €1,472, roughly equal to a new smartphone.
  • The price differences simply reflect how much different regions can and want to spend.

NOTE: The exchange rate for the US Dollar conversion was as of September 19, 2025.

Also, note that Fearless Photographers made it clear that the data comes from a very simple survey. The data compilation is informal and non-scientific. It is not intended for business purposes or research. Some countries are not included on this list due to insufficient data.
