The useful version asks which tasks are exposed, because almost every job is a bundle of tasks, only some of which AI can touch.

Why “by task, not title” is the honest frame
A job title like “lawyer” or “accountant” is not exposed or safe as a whole.
Some of its tasks- drafting, summarizing, first-pass analysis- are highly exposed, while others are not.
Because most occupations mix automatable and irreplaceable tasks, the realistic effect is that AI reshapes how jobs are done rather than eliminating them outright.
That is why the “by task” lens survives every new model release, while “AI will kill job X by year Y” headlines keep expiring.

AI does not simply replace whole jobs. It affects certain tasks inside jobs, like typing up data or writing first drafts.
So the smart question is not “will my job disappear,” it is “which parts of my job can AI do.”
