It began as a quirky campus pastime at Rice University, but the Rice Purity Test has since taken on a life of its own online.
Framed as a 100-question checklist, the test promises to measure just how “innocent” you are when it comes to life’s vices (sex, drugs, cheating, and other taboo experiences).
According to results from ARealMe, a global hosting platform for this test, the Rice Purity Test average score is 63.80 at the time of review. However, it varies by age.
UPDATE: ARealMe updates its Statistical Reports annually. Figures used for this report are as of September 2025.
TL;DR
- Younger adults have higher purity scores.
- The high purity score for older adults reflects a greater accumulation of life experiences.
Rice Purity Scores and their Interpretations
The score works backwards: 100% means squeaky clean, 0% means you’ve ticked nearly every box.
While never intended as a scientific measure, the so-called “Innocence Test” has become a cultural shorthand for comparing youthful experiences.
100: This score means you’re very pure or innocent.
99 – 95: Very pure and new to the world
94 – 90: Also very pure
89 -70: Probably done a few crazy things
69 – 50: You enjoy adult things
49 – 20: Below average and not pure
19 – 10: Far behind average and might have committed a crime
9 – 1: Not pure at all
0: Very corrupt

Looking at the scores, you would notice that men and women have lower purity scores as their age increases.
In other words, the older they get, the less innocent they become. A drop in the score is observed among people aged 65 and above, with the score for men decreasing to 58 and that for women decreasing to 65.
The “highest” purity score is seen between the ages of 18 and 24, which is mostly the youthful stage. The score is around 87 for men and 89 for women.
On average, Women Are ‘Purer’ Than Men
Women have higher purity scores than men across all age groups.
The gap between women and men is the widest among younger adults, typically those aged 25 to 34. For this age group, the average score for women is 79.7, while for men it is 74.1, making it a difference of over 5 points.
This difference (high women’s scores) also persists in the older age group, i.e., those aged 65 and above. The average score for men is 58.3, and for women, it is 65.4, indicating a 7-point difference.
By examining the average scores of men and women, we can see that men tend to have more experience and lower purity than women across different age groups.
Rice Purity Score Doesn’t Stay the Same Forever
A significant drop for both men and women occurs between the ages of 18-24 and 25-34. This is the mid-20s to early 30s period. It is an era of diverse lifestyles and experiences.
The average score for women drops from 89.2 to 79.7, and for men from 87.4 to 74.1. From age 35, the decline becomes gradual.
Purity scores decline gradually after age 45. Women’s scores drop from 67.2 to 65.4, and men’s scores drop from 62.8 to 58.3. These drops are smaller than those in earlier years.
This means that the major experiences that influence the scores have already occurred, making the scores somewhat stable.
ELI5
Arealme’s dataset shows Rice Purity scores fall with age: under-18s average 91.12, 18–24s about 88, 25–34s about 76, and the overall average is about 64.
A Real Me
High score = Few experience (Not explored enough)
Low score = More experience (A lot of adventures)
A higher score means the person checked fewer “risky” items (less sexual experience, drug use, etc.), so the pattern simply reflects that older people have had more life experiences.
