The price of a hotel room in New Delhi went up to $20,000 per night last week (and it’s not even a suite).

Luxury hotels in India’s capital have multiplied their rates by as much as 400 to 800% as the country hosted the AI Impact Summit.

The summit was a five-day gathering (from February 16 to 21) that drew 35,000 registrations from more than 100 countries, including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang, and heads of government from around the world.

The price surge, affecting at least seven major properties, reflects the extraordinary demand created by what organizers are calling the largest AI policy gathering in history.

As you can see, on average, many suites saw a 400–800% increase in pricing, emphasizing the premium placed on proximity and exclusivity during the summit.

Room types also played a significant role in pricing.

Executive and tower suites, large suites with king beds, and balcony suites with forest or pool views experienced the steepest hikes.

Even standard luxury suites saw substantial increases, demonstrating how the AI summit reshaped Delhi’s hospitality pricing landscape almost overnight.

The Event That Drove Demand

The surge in hotel prices in Delhi stems directly from the India AI Impact Summit 2026, a five‑day global technology gathering held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from February 16–20.

Across more than 700 sessions and 500+ startup showcases, attendees are debating AI governance, ethics, safety, and international cooperation, alongside exhibitions of practical AI applications spanning health, education, agriculture, and public services.

With such unprecedented global participation, demand for luxury accommodation has surged far beyond normal levels, directly influencing the dramatic spike in premium hotel tariffs.

A key conclusion of last week’s Summit was the New Delhi Declaration on AI. Signed by 88 countries and organizations, this declaration advocates for an equitable, human-centric approach, focusing on seven “Chakras” (pillars) of AI development.

Who attended?

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 has drawn an exceptionally high‑profile global roster of leaders from government, tech, and industry.

At the top of the list is Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, who participated in discussions and stakeholder events in Delhi.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, was also among the expected attendees, along with leaders such as Dario Amodei of Anthropic and Demis Hassabis from Google DeepMind.

Heads of state and government were present in force, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as well as Prime Ministers and presidents from over a dozen countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Additionally, over 100 CEOs and founders of major global tech firms and ministers responsible for AI and digital transformation were among the list

Historical Context

Major international sporting events, such as the Olympic Games, have historically driven hotel rates well above normal levels.

For example, Paris hotels saw average prices increase by more than 300 % during the 2024 Olympics compared with regular periods, with some luxury rooms jumping severalfold.

Summits like the G20 and high‑profile diplomatic visits have also impacted accommodation pricing; during the 2023 G20 summit in New Delhi and previous visits by world leaders, five‑star hotel rates climbed sharply as demand surged.

What sets the AI Summit apart is the breadth of demand.

Technology CEOs, heads of state, ministers, and thousands of delegates globally are pushing luxury suite tariffs into the multi‑lakh range, in some cases exceeding the peaks seen in other recent events.

That makes it among the most significant hotel‑pricing surges the city has recorded.

ELI5

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi has triggered unprecedented hotel price surges, with luxury suites jumping multiple times above standard rates, some exceeding ₹3,47,000 per night. Over 35,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, including Sam Altman, Jensen Huang, and global leaders, are attending.

The spike surpasses previous events such as the G20 and the Olympics in Delhi, reflecting the extraordinary demand for premium accommodations driven by the world’s largest AI policy gathering.
