If your favorite internet browser is Chrome, just know it’s no coincidence.
That’s the option dominating the browser market right now.
Browsers shape how we access the internet, and this visualization shows each browser’s global market share, based on StatCounter data.
TL;DR
- Chrome leads worldwide with a 71.22% market share.
- Regionally, Chrome remains strongest in South America (89.48%), Asia (81.63%), and Africa (75.72%).
- Based on device type, Chrome also leads on desktop (78.23%), mobile (68.75%), and tablet (49.96%).
To put things in perspective, about 6.04 billion people worldwide were using the internet at the start of October 2025, equivalent to 73.2% of the world’s population.
This means whichever internet browser dominates the market gets a large chunk of that population.
The table below presents each browser along with its corresponding market share percentage.

Chrome’s dominance in the browser market reflects how deeply integrated the browser has become in everyday digital life.
With more than 70% global share, Chrome benefits from its cross-device availability, strong performance, and tight integration with Google’s ecosystem, from Search to YouTube to Drive.
The browser’s dominance may not change anytime soon.
In December 2025, Google tested new message variations in Chrome to encourage users to set it as the default browser.
Chrome shows three versions: a short thank-you note right after the switch, a brief line that explains the default browser’s purpose when Chrome is not selected, and a Windows prompt that also suggests adding Chrome to the taskbar.
Chrome Still Tops Across All Device Types
When we filtered by device type, Google Chrome remains the clear frontrunner for market share across desktop (78.23%), mobile (68.75%), and tablet (49.96%).
Among other browsers, Apple Safari tends to do well on mobile and tablets, reflecting its tight coupling with Apple’s iOS and iPadOS ecosystems, while on desktop, its share drops considerably.
Beyond dominance, a few patterns stand out.
- The device type strongly influences which “runner-up” browser gains traction: Safari beats the others on mobile/tablet, but falls behind on desktop.
- Browsers designed for specific ecosystems or devices (like Safari on iOS) tend to cluster their share around those devices, creating “pockets” of significant use even if their global share is small.
Browser Market By Region
Chrome maintains its global lead everywhere, but its dominance is most pronounced in regions where Android devices are widespread and price-sensitive markets dominate, especially Asia (81.63%), Africa (75.72%), and South America (89.48%).
These regions rely heavily on Android smartphones, making Chrome the default and, by extension, the most convenient choice.
Opera’s relatively higher share in Africa also reflects its long-standing optimization for low-bandwidth environments, which remains valuable in areas with less consistent internet access.
In contrast, Safari’s strength is centered in markets with high Apple adoption.
North America (25.73%), Oceania (28.11%), and Europe (18.98%) show far higher Safari usage, mirroring the strong presence of iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
While Chrome still leads in all three, these regions demonstrate a more balanced landscape, especially on desktop and mobile.
ELI5: Internet Browsers Market Share
Among all browsers, Chrome leads worldwide with a dominant 73.22% market share, making it the most widely used across nearly all markets.
When you narrow it down to regions, Chrome leads in Asia and Oceania.
In terms of device type, it tops the charts for mobile, tablets, and desktop, although Safari doesn’t lag far behind.
